Obituary for Veronica Lynn Moczygemba

Veronica Lynn Moczygemba was born in San Antonio, Texas, on Sept. 2, 1971, and passed away suddenly in her sleep in Chicago, Ill., on Sunday, Nov. 25, 2018. She was one of the kindest and genuinely thoughtful people who brought out the best in everyone she met and shared in the joy of others, said her family.

Veronica spent most of her formative years in San Antonio attending local schools, and graduated from John Marshall High School. A highlight of her high school career was a summer tour of Europe with her choir to England, Spain, France, and Italy. This sparked her travel bug later on. In her early days, she cherished the time spent with her grandparents, Ben L. and Martha Mocygemba, staying on their farm near Poth, where she started friendships with many of her cousins, especially with Cara, when the two got to stay overnight at the farm. Veronica resided in Plano for a few years, where she started her friendship with her Harakal cousins, which she enhanced later when she moved to the Dallas area during college. She participated in 4-H beginning with the horse program and then beef cattle, principally exhibiting Santa Gertrudis heifers at local and major shows. From these agriculture-related activities, she learned many valuable life lessons, some of which helped her later in life. The lessons also included that life can have some humbling and life-changing events.

She started college at Trinity University in San Antonio, then attended the University of Texas at San Antonio, and graduated from the University of North Texas in Denton. She received an MBA from the University of Texas in international business and finance. During her studies at North Texas, she spent a semester in London, England, from where she took a junket to Ireland and a two-week trek of Poland, one week of participation in seminars on economics, and a week as a tourist, where she visited the Shrine of Our Lady of Czestochowa.

She began her career with Liberty Mutual Insurance in Dallas, then moved to Boston, Mass., and then to Chicago a few years later. In addition to her career moves to different cities, and much work-related travel, she again traveled to England and Ireland and added Scotland and Italy.

Veronica was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents; and six uncles, Dr. John, George (Patricia and their daughter, Dolores), David Harakal, and Albert (Catherine), Gervase, and Clyde Moczygemba.

She is survived by her mother, Suzi Moczygemba of San Antonio; father and stepmother LeRoy and Mary H. Moczygemba of Natalia; three uncles, Arthur (Lorene) Moczygemba, Francis Moczygemba, and James Harakal; spouses of deceased uncles, Jane Harakal, Marlene Moczygemba, and Carol George; and numerous cousins and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15, from 9-10 a.m. with a rosary to be recited at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth. A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. A reception will follow in the parish hall.

Veronica was cremated and her ashes interred following a committal service, officiated by Deacon Michael Velasquez, in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery in Poth next to her beloved Moczygemba grandparents.

Memorial contributions may be made in Veronica’s name to Catholic charities, Blessed Sacrament Perpetual Cemetery Fund, or a charity of one’s choice.
