Our Facilities

Not a FUNERAL HOME–but a HOME FOR FUNERALS.  Central Chapel is different. It was designed to be different. Serving only one family at a time you not only have the undivided attention of our fine staff, you have the house all to yourself!  Whether it is our Great Room-Chapel, Coffee Lounge/Reception Facilities,  parking lot or foyer, the exclusivity of Central Chapel offers both privacy and flexibility. Central Chapel can support everything from very large assemblies to the smallest of quaint gatherings. We are open-minded in working with you to make sure our many amenities are adaptable to your needs.

A funeral or memorial service is the pivotal opportunity to pay tribute to someone you loved. It is a time for relatives and friends to gather tell stories, to share memories, to acknowledge your loss and support one another.

We are constantly updating and improving Central Chapel so that our elegance and homelike remains the finest funeral facilities in our community. As of February 2013 we are preparing to add new pictures of our re-carpeted facilities, as well as expanded reception center and family café.

Central Chapel

The Sign of Service

Foyer
Not a funeral home--but a home for funerals.
Our home is your home---serving one family at a time.

Fireplace
Our comfortable, natural, fireplace is adorned with an original Matt Lamb painting entitled: ONWARD AND UPWARD. Matt Lamb was a world renowned artist, peace activist and philanthropist, in addition to being a funeral director and past CEO of Blake-Lamb Funeral Homes.

Chapel (Side)
Our PARLOR/CHAPEL is versatile enough to be set for smaller, intimate gatherings, as well as for very large services.

Chapel - Life Tribute
This picture depicts the large flat screen located in the chapel where our Life Tribute Program can be seen during services.

Great Room - Chapel
Our chapel can accommodate large or small services. We frequently reconfigure the chairs to suit the needs of a family.

Casket Selection Area
We are pleased to have finished installing our new casket selection area. For many years, we showed full size caskets. We find that it is easier on families to not be overwhelmed with a room full of caskets. This selection area is used in conjunction with a flat screen and Ipad for greater choices. The new urn selection area is presently under construction. Both have been moved to the first floor. Central Chapel buys 80% of it's caskets from Hoffman Burial, located in Bridgeview, IL and headquartered in Peoria, IL. Hoffman is a local company that employs local people and sells American made caskets. The other 20% of our caskets are purchased from Chicago Cremation or Aurora Casket, both distributors of American products.

Conference Room
This stately conference room is used for consultations between clergy and families, funeral and memorial service planning, as well as a private family room for those times when families need a few private moments.

Cafe - Lounge - Reception Center
In recent years, families have enjoyed a substantially expanded cafe, lounge and reception center at Central Chapel. People are welcome to being in any type of food or beverage that they would like.

LILLY -and- DOLLY
Lilly and Dolly are two rescue dogs who live upstairs from Central Chapel with Bob Moynihan and are often a welcoming, consoling presence when wakes and funerals are not in progress. Lilly is an 8 year old American Eskimo/Cocker Spaniel mix who has been here for 5 years and Dolly is a 9 year old Beagle who joined our family almost a year ago.

Art and music are very important components of Central Chapel.
Our "home for funerals" has intentionally rejected the look of so many of the other funeral homes. Our funeral home is elegant and tasteful, not drab, outdated and funereal looking.

Sunflower
Sunflower was commissioned by Central Chapel with Lithuanian artist, Rasa Kluonius. Rasa was born and raised in the capital city of Vilnius, during the oppressive Soviet occupation of Lithuania. We chose Rasa Kluonius because she experienced darkness and despair yet expresses hope and newness as she  "dazzles the senses with masterful strokes of brilliant color and powerful texture."

Sunflowers
This is one of two beautiful sunflower paintings by Rasa Kluonius that grace our PARLOR/CHAPEL

Thriving Peonies
Another painting by Rasa Kluonius, the peonies are a spring flower which thrives amid neglect. This painting intends to offer a consoling message that hope prevails even during the worst moments of grief.

We Believe in MUSIC
You will find NO CREEPY ORGAN MUSIC at Central Chapel! In addition to a state of the art sound system which interfaces with ipads, mobile phones, USB drives and includes a CD syetem, we have a brand new HALLETT DAVIS & CO. piano. Background piano music is offered during wakes and visitations and is included at all Funeral and Memorial Services.

HEARSE (Casket Coach)
We pride ourselves on offering late model, industry leading professional vehicles at Central Chapel. Our hearse is a 2013 Lincoln hearse made by S&S Coachbuilders in Lima, Ohio. We have never had a hearse that has received so many compliments.

FLOWER CAR / SERVICE VEHICLE
People actually choose Central Chapel because of this vehicle. Most funeral homes refuse to take the flowers to the cemetery without the use of a $ 500 flower car. WE TRANSPORT FLOWERS TO THE CEMETERY AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE. This vehicle also leads the funeral processions and is outfitted with siren and flashing light to effect safe and orderly funeral processions. This is a 2013 Dodge which was purchased locally at Midway Dodge.

FAMILY CAR SEDAN
At Central Chapel, we do go the extra steps in offering additional items of service and courtesy without additional cost. Unlike any other funeral home that we know of, we do avail our FAMILY CAR sedan to each and every family on day of service. The car includes a chauffeur, seats three people, and will pick up family members, transport them for the duration of services and either take them home following services or wait for them at a luncheon, if desired. We keep the sedan 3 years and every time we get another one from RAY BUICK, a great local business in our neighborhood. This car is a 2015 Buick LaCrosse.

Ketcham Chapel
This vintage picture depicts our former location, the KETCHAM CHAPEL, located at 2036 West 79th Street in Chicago. Built in 1954, it was the first funeral home in Chicago with central air-conditioning. It had two state rooms or drawing rooms for visitation that were much like the homelike setting we offer today at CENTRAL CHAPEL, in addition to a formal service chapel with pews. Central Chapel owner, Robert Moynihan, became a licensed Funeral Director in 1983, in the 100th year of service of the Ketcham Chapel, which was later renamed Lane-Moynihan.

Lane Chapel
We proudly, humbly carry-on the fine tradition of the Lane Funeral Home,
a neighborhood funeral parlor, started in 1890, offering courtesy and affordability to one family at a time.
